How it Works:

Phase 1: Kickstarter Phase

Join Nature Farms with a $200 membership.  This investment shows other members and potential members that we are all serious about this opportunity.

Phase 2: District Membership

Once a District is formed or is in formation, members will be signed-up at $200 per household, on a time-stamp basis.  Refundable if the District in your county does not get established.

Phase 3: Operations

Non-bond operations will begin as soon as possible once the district is authorized.  Pricing would be similar to other CSA programs.

Levies on member's properties may only happen after bond purchases have been authorized by the board of Directors, the County, and the State of Texas, as per the Texas Agriculutral Code.

Simply a one-time membership fee that helps to sustain the marketing efforts.

Districts use the CSA model for a broad variety of products.  The difference is that the farm and other assets will be owned by the membership, ensuring a long-term local presence in the market, as well as pursuing a goal of the the cleanest, nutrient-dense foods possible.

The key objective is to impact the membership's health with the most nutrient-dense locally available foods.  Generally, these are fresher, with longer shelf life, and most importantly - much more tasty!

District staff will be testing the plants and produce regularly for brix levels, as well as submitting samples for lab testing.  We will be working the BioNutrient Food Association to train the farmers in the most advanced techniques in producing nutrient dense foods.

Nature Farms addresses all 10 action points in the Austin-Travis County Food Action Plan.  Most importantly, it enables large-scale financing of community farming assets that can preserve local farms, as well as give beginning farmers and ranchers a leg up in getting started.  District farms are an important part of the beginning farmer ecosystem of incubators and accelerators.
