Nature Estates

Greater privacy while benefitting from the services of a steward that maintains the landscape as well as local food provisions.

Our concept for this type of development is for smaller land parcels located in proximity to Nature Towns for infrastructure.  Lots could be in the 1, 0.75, 0.5 and 0.25 acre lot sizes, with favorable road access.

Do I have to do farm work?

No.  Nature Farms is based on developing beginning farmers and ranchers and managed by master stewards.

What is the product?

Our vision is to offer various teirs of service as we build out the infrastructure:

  • Starting with CSA boxes
  • Selling surpluses at farmer's markets
  • Researching the possibility of meal kits.
  • Develop store fronts within the city and urban areas for greater access/convenience.

During this time, we will also be researching new options for value-added foods and for partnering with farmers who offer foods that we cannot grow within our region, such as apples, grapefruit, oranges, etc.  

Why do we need Nature Farms?

The Austin metro region / Travis County currently produces just 0.6% of its food locally.  That means we are importing 99.4% of our food.  In times of unrest and disruption, that can leave us vulnerable to supply chain interruptions.  We have faith in our local grocery retailers, but some times events happen beyond their control.

 

What if I want out?

In general, Nature Farms should only cost you what you subscribe for, such as a veggie box, a dairy/eggs subscription, etc.  

In the event that you want to move out of the region etc., you would submit your request to the district.  In the event that there is a waiting list, you name/property would exchanged at the cost of an administrative fee.

In the event that there is no waiting list, your name/property would be replaced according to a member waiting list that would exchange your name/property with the next available member.

Where will they be?

In general, we are seeking out land in areas of high soil quality, on large parcels of land (320+ acres), within commuting distance of major job centers.

Are there any in existence yet?

We are in the backend development phases, and are working to improve the financing opportunities within the next year.

What kind of housing would be in Nature Towns

Nature Towns will be designed with the following types of housing:

  • Single Family lots of 25' and 37.5' widths and 50' depths. Housing can be both shared wall and stand alone.
  • Live-Work Retail lots of 25' by 50' and 3 floors tall.
  • Missing Middle building developments of 50' by 100' and three floors tall.
  • Co-housing opportunities based on 25' x50' and co-housing lots.

What are my workplace options as an employee?

We are planning for a workplace employment exchange so that you can identify employers by which Nature Town they are located in.

If on-site employment isn't a solution, your transit options include:

  • Personal vehicles.  Your own would be parked in front of your single family housing.
  • Community fleet.  We are researching the use of a community electric vehicle fleet which could also contribute the vehicle's battery capacity to the community micro-grid.
  • Transit-hub.  We expect that most residences will be within 10 minutes of the community transit hub, offering bus and charter travel opportunities, as well as ride hailing services.  Remember that there are 3,000 people living in the community.
What are my workplace options as an employee?

If you are an employer looking for competitive options, please reach out to us.  Nature Towns offer distinctive amenities targetted at the creative class.

Live-Work-Retail options are plentiful, and offer a first floor retail (25'x50') as well as two stories above, ideal for office space and living quarters.  We can also work with you to arrange double wide lots (i.e. 50'x50'), as well as buildings that are better suited to frequent inventory movement, and pallets for delivery services.

Where are Nature Estates located?

We prefer locations in the 50-200 acre range, with good road access. as well as ecological features.

The typical experience in Nature Estates is focused on greater privacy with similarly great nature and food amenities as we design into all of our projects.

What type of lots could we expect?

Lot designs in Nature Estates are expected to be 200' deep, and then with various widths such as:

  • 200' wide (1 acre lots)
  • 150' wide (0.75 acre lots)
  • 100' wide (0.5 acre lots)
  • 50' wide (0.25 acre lots)
What kind of security can we expect?

Nature Estates have the ability to contract for local security services as a collective group.  In addition, we anticipate that Nature Estates lots will be heavily screened with hedges and trees.  Finally, the larger Nature Estates lots could have sufficient space for underground and above ground bunkers suitable for climate and social disruptions.

What services could Nature Estates provide?

Nature Estates could benefit from the same excellent stewardship of both the community and environment that Nature Towns receive.  In addition, Nature Estates residents could benefit from more customized landscaping services, garden and micro-livestock support, and food delivery (Nature Farms) options.
